Brief: Profit soars at big NJ casino operator

The company, controlled by New York developer Donald Trump, had a profit of $5.31 million, or 24 cents a diluted share, up from $3.03 million, or 13 cents, a year ago. It beat the 23-cents-a-share estimate of Bear, Stearns & Co. analyst Jason Ader.

Revenue rose 5.8 percent to $397.3 million from $375.6 million thanks to an East Coast ad campaign and higher table winnings at the Trump Taj Mahal casino.

Trump Hotels also owns Trump Plaza and Trump Marina in Atlantic City and Trump Indiana riverboat casino near Gary, Ind.
