Wells considers time switch

The council is considering a switch from Pacific time to Mountain time.

That would put it on a par with West Wendover, Owyhee, Jackpot, Jarbidge and Mountain City.

Wells used to be on Mountain time when that zone encompassed northeastern Nevada west to Carlin.

While the other cities just refused to switch, Wells opted for Pacific time and now must submit a petition through the governor's office to the U.S. Department of Transportation if the proposal is approved at the local level.

Proponents say the change would mean an extra hour of daylight and would put it on the same time as the nearby communities north and east of Elko.
