Monday, Oct. 12, 1998 | 1:59 a.m.
The Nevada Highway Patrol said a pickup driven by Rachel Thompson, 19, of Winnemucca was westbound on the interstate when it strayed off the side of the road about 32 miles east of Winnemucca.
She overcorrected and the pickup swerved into the median where it rolled over several times.
Both she and her passenger, Amber Black, 20, of Winnemucca were wearing seat belts. Thompson received only minor injuries in the Sunday evening wreck and was treated and released at Battle Mountain hospital, where Black was pronounced dead.
