Brief: Critic challenges gambling economic impact study

Robert Goodman said that at best, gambling contributes $361 million to the Missouri economy. He said that taking the costs of problem gambling into account means casinos might actually cost the state's economy $185 million a year.

Goodman is a Massachusetts professor and author of the anti-gambling book The Luck Business.

The Kansas City Star reported Goodwin was retained to review the St. Louis study by gambling opponents who are concerned the study is misleading and incomplete.
