Letter: Victimization of Clinton is complete

The heretofore unfathomable White House conundrum has at last been solved and sorted out. And in today's world, one could so easily have predicted the outcome: the president is a victim!

He was set up by Kenneth Starr, the sinister kingpin, and Linda Tripp, a willing foot soldier in a vast right-wing conspiracy, and has been unconscionably skewered by partisan Republicans and a virulently hostile media. Let us weep.

Being set up for public humiliation and blackmail is, of course, one of the occupational hazards to which presidents and other high government officials are particularly susceptible. More ominously, this vulnerability poses a continuing peril to national security, and for this reason most high government officials recognize that great discretion in one's personal conduct is among the highest imperatives of high office.

The other side of this coin is that overwhelming recklessness in the president's personal conduct is clear and convincing proof of stupidity so vast that it defies quantification.

In fact, it may be argued persuasively that stupidity of this magnitude rises to the level of the "high crimes and misdemeanors" specified in our Constitution as grounds for impeachment. No more is needed.
