Utah Grizzlies 5, Las Vegas Thunder 1

LAS VEGAS--The Utah Grizzlies (1-2-0) scored four times in the second period to wrap up a 5-1 win over the Las Vegas Thunder (0-3-0) Thursday in front of 3,056 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The loss leaves the Thunder as the only winless team in the Western Conference. John Purves put Utah on the board with the only goal of the first period, at 18:03. Brad Lauer gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead 4:38 into the second period. The Thunder stayed within striking distance with J.F. Jomphe's goal at 7:56, but Utah put the game away with a three-goal run within the last 3:57 of the period. Nick Vukota started the barrage at 16:03, followed by Micah Aivazoff and Colin Chaulk, both of whom scored in the final minute. Ryan Bach stopped 24 of 25 in the Utah goal, while the Thunder's Konstantin Simchuk faced 36 shots and made 31 saves.
