Brief: Aviation show clogs runway, snarls jet traffic

The National Business Aviation Association's 51st annual meeting and convention ends today. More than 26,000 people attended the three-day event.

A spokeswoman at McCarran said there were 500 additional operations at the airport on Saturday and Sunday as convention attendees arrived in aircraft they planned to show.

McCarran closed one of its two north-south runways and parked planes on one of them. What airport officials didn't count on were wind conditions that forced airport officials to divert all traffic to the two east-west runways, resulting in delays of more than an hour per flight.

McCarran officials have recommended passengers call in advance to determine if flights are running on time.
