"These grants are good news for some of the poorest families in Nevada and bad news for drug dealers who terrorize them," Cuomo said from Washington in a telephone new conference with Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., Las Vegas Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Jan Jones and Clark County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates.
Las Vegas was awarded $1,416,270 while Clark County received $476,402. North Las Vegas was given $829,500 and Reno received $225,000.
"These grants will help restore a sense of pride to low-income families who are doing their best to keep their children out of trouble," Reid said.
Nationwide, HUD is awarding $305 million in Drug Elimination Grants this year. The money will be used for drug prevention, treatment programs, security guards and improvements to fences, lighting or locks.
