Denzel Nelson Aiken, 97, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. He was born April 9, 1901, in Spring City, Utah. A resident for 57 years, he owned and operated a brick production and sales company and was a Boy Scouts volunteer.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Bybee-Aiken; one daughter, Denza Wright of Las Vegas; six stepchildren; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Wednesday in the Hollywood and Stewart LDS Chapel. Burial will be in Spring City.

Julius 'Jim' Barth

Julius "Jim" Barth, 71, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local health care center. He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Flint, Mich. A resident for 30 years, he was an environmental scientist for 30 years at the Environmental Protection Agency, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Nevada Gym Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lucie.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Odyssey Harbor House Chapel, 4011 McLeod Drive. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Nadine Darling

Nadine Darling, 73, of Henderson died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born May 28, 1925, in Rockville, Utah. A resident for 37 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, David Darling and Michael Darling, both of Las Vegas and Stanley Darling of Bonanza, Ore.; one daughter, Connie Gonya of New Hampshire; one brother, Robert DeMille of Cedar City, Utah; three sisters, Cora Canfield of Las Vegas, Zella Erickson of Ivins, Utah, and Helen Brunson of Napa, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

Enrique DeVarona

Enrique DeVarona, 56, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Havana. A resident for 36 years, he was a casino floorman.

He is survived by one daughter, Melissa DeVarona, and one brother, Carlos DeVarona, both of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Ines Navarro of Las Vegas and Celia Rose Varona of Henderson.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. services Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Anna Marie French

Anna Marie French, died Oct. 7, her date of birth, in a local hospital.

She is survived by her father, James Edward French; her mother, Alecia Christine Spradlin; and one sister, Kristina Breann French.

Barbara Hamm

Barbara Hamm, 72, of Las Vegas died Oct. 14 in a local health care center. She was born May 9, 1926, in Michigan. A resident of Las Vegas for only a short time, she was a church secretary.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Geiner of Las Vegas and Mary Blank of Holland, Ohio; three grandchildren, one step-grandchild, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

No local services were scheduled. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, handled arrangements.

Orville H. Harris

Orville H. Harris, 71, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born June 19, 1927, in Oklahoma. A resident for 30 years, he was a general contractor, a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines, a member of the Masons and Shriners.

He is survived by one daughter, Leslie Harris of Fort Worth, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 1 p.m. services Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

John Linton Lewis

John Linton Lewis, 67, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. He was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Flint, Mich. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired postal employee and a Vietnam War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Essie; two daughters, Paula Lewis of Michigan and Pamela Duplessis of San Diego; one brother, Jim Lewis, and four sisters, Nona, Delores, Bea and Arbutum, all of Michigan; and three grandchildren.

Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Merrill Dwayne Lyman

Merrill Dwayne Lyman, 74, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. He was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Hermosa Beach, Calif. A resident for five years, he was a retired seaman for a petroleum company and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Dwayne G. Lyman of Pasco, Wash., and Merrill D. Lyman of Atwater, Calif.; three daughters, Maureen L. Lamp and Linda S. Blohm, both of Glendale, Calif., and Patricia M. Watts of Atwater; one sister, Sue Winkleman of Apple Valley, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Anselm Harold 'Hans' Maki Sr.

Anselm Harold 'Hans' Maki Sr., 70, of Stetsonville, Wis., died Tuesday in Wisconsin. He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Marengo, Wis. A former Las Vegas resident, he was a musician known for his singing pups, taught Wayne Newton several different methods of playing guitar in the early 1960s, owned and operated the Midway Tavern in Stetsonville, was an Army veteran, an Air Force airman first class and Korean War veteran, a member of Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post 519 in Stetsonville, the National Rifle Association, Wisconsin Tavern League, Taylor County Tavern League, Stetsonville Volunteer Fire Department, enjoyed darts and competing in horseshoe tournaments.

He is survived by one son, Anselm Harold Maki Jr. of Mission Bay, Calif.; four daughters, Pamela Staszek and Betsy Maki, both of Tucson, Ariz., Brenda Beseth of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Laina Jean Rhodes of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, one step-grandson and three great-grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home, Stetsonville, is handling arrangements.

Myrle 'Sis' Messer

Myrle "Sis" Messer, 72, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. She was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Chicago. A resident for 37 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Saul; three daughters, Anita Ziegler of Agoura, Calif., Vicki Goshorn of Sacramento, Calif., and Bonnie Jones of Las Vegas; one brother, Marvin Friedman of Park Forest, Ill.; seven grandchildren and two grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Joseph W. Moorman

Joseph W. Moorman, 86, of Escondido, Calif., died Oct. 18 in California. He was born in Eaton, Ohio. A former Las Vegas resident, he was an electrical engineer for the Southern California Gas Co., an independent arson consultant for the state of California, chief engineer during World War II in the Merchant Marines, a member of the American Merchant Marine Veterans, Toastmasters, Elks and Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; one son, Joe Moorman; one daughter, Sharon; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, where a Mass will be conducted at a later date.

John Edwin Saling Sr.

John Edwin Saling Sr., 72, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born June 24, 1926, in Long Beach, Calif. A resident for 15 years, he was an accountant.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; five sons, John Saling Jr., Jeffrey Saling and Scott Saling, all of Las Vegas, Greg Saling of California and Brian Saling of Texas; two daughters, Kimberlee Saling of California and Diana Saling of Las Vegas; one sister, Evelyn Schuber of California; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Private services are being arranged by Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd.

John L. Waters

John L. Waters, 59, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. A resident for 35 years, he was born March 16, 1939, in Toomasuma, Miss.

He is survived by his wife, Emily; seven children, Mary White, Shanethia Winston, Melissa Waters, Johnny G. Winston and Randy Winston, all of Las Vegas, and Aronda Robinson and Maxine Waters, both of North Las Vegas; his stepmother, Ruby Waters of Newark, N.J.; one brother, Henry C. Ray Jr. of Chicago; eight sisters, Adrine Sloan of North Las Vegas, Eddie Mae Tubbs, Joann Lee and Mary Young, all of Chicago, Juanita Johnson and Murrie Lee Porter, both of Meridian, Miss., Artie Williams of Etta Bena, Miss., and Linda Waters of Newark; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-8 p.m. Tuesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.
