Brief: Insurer wins round in court

Universal-operated hospitals Valley, Desert Springs and Summerlin sued Sierra Health in September, alleging they were owed $1.7 million that Sierra Health had withheld under a service agreement the companies had to treat each other's patients.

Sierra withheld the money as part of a dispute with Universal-owned Northern Nevada Medical Center. Sierra claims NNMC owes it $1.7 million.

Jon Bunker, president of Sierra Health's Western Region, said his company had tried to resolve the matter out of court.

Attempts to contact Universal Health Services officials for comment failed.
