The system, called the Remote Access Verification Environment, or RAVE, is a proprietary intranet that allows access only to dial-up subscribers. The intranet cannot be accessed by non-subscribers or via the Internet.

RAVE incorporates highly sophisticated call tracing and security measures to ensure the system is not being accessed from outside Nevada. Developed in conjunction with KPMG Peat Marwick and Bellcore, RAVE uses encryption techniques and smart cards to identify and authenticate users, and to ensure data stored on the network is secure.

The system has been developed to meet Nevada Gaming Control Board requirements. However, RAVE can be modified for use in other jurisdictions, and can support other gaming applications like horse racing and lotteries.

Bally has also developed SportsMaker, a database and warehousing system designed for target marketing, advertising and merchandising.
