DA urged to probe shootings

The father of one of the men killed in self-defense by a Las Vegas resident Sunday said he would like to see the district attorney's office press charges against the resident who opened fire on his son.

"It was wrong what my son and the other man did, and there is no excuse for it, but I think that when my son fled the man's home, the police should have taken it from there," said Rex Lamb, whose son, 26-year-old Las Vegan Jason Allen Lamb, was killed after breaking into a home at 400 Lakehurst Road.

The name of the other man killed and the resident who shot the intruders have not been released by the police, though the shooter has been publicly identified as Tom Gaule.

Sgt. Kevin Manning said the name of the second shooting victim is not being released pending notification of the family.

Gaule reportedly came home Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. to find Lamb and a second intruder in his home.

Metro police said the intruders attacked the man with electronic stun guns, but the resident broke away, got a shotgun from the house and fired at the intruders.

Both intruders fled, police said, with one falling in the resident's driveway from a gunshot wound. The other intruder fell at the corner of Lakehurst and Pinedale Avenue after the resident chased him down the street and fired several more shots, police said.

Rex Lamb said he wished that the resident had let the intruders go after they fled his home.

"I do hope that the district attorney decides to press charges," Lamb said from his Minnesota home. "My son was a good kid that did something wrong. He was easily manipulated and fell in with the wrong people."

Assistant District Attorney Charles Thompson said that his office will look at the case, calling the incident touchy and noting that research would have to be done.

The DA's office will not begin looking into the case until homicide detectives submit the case for review, Thompson said.

Lamb said that his son leaves behind a 5-month-old child and a pregnant wife in Las Vegas.
