Former deputy DA given another chance

Former Deputy District Attorney Steven Hill, who lasted less than a month on probation on drug charges before he was arrested, has been given another chance at probation with strict conditions.

And District Judge Michael Douglas emphasized to Hill that it is his last.

Hill already had squandered numerous opportunities during the past two years that would have let him avoid a felony conviction and keep his law license.

He flunked out of Drug Court for submitting a false urine sample, walked away from a drug treatment center and got arrested on charges of attempting to steal his ex-wife's car.

Earlier this month, he was arrested on a charge of possessing a hypodermic device after police stopped him as he allegedly sped down a Las Vegas street.

Although the state Parole and Probation Department booked him on probation revocation charges, Deputy Attorney General William Taylor on Monday said that probation should continue if Hill adheres to strict conditions.

Among those are house arrest from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., drug counseling and finding a job.
