Teen wins battle for right to vote

Joshua Hansen, 18, was cleared to vote by District Judge Gene Porter after taking his case to court.

Hansen sued Clark County Registrar of Voters Kathryn Ferguson after her office refused to process his application to vote because he did not have a Social Security card, Nevada driver's license or Nevada identification card. One of the three is required by Nevada law.

Hansen has said he does not have the state-required forms in part because the accompanying numbers could be "the prophesied mark of the beast or the precursor to it."

Hansen contends his anti-government convictions prevent him from attaching numbers to his existence.

Porter said his ruling applied only to Hansen. And he agreed with Ferguson that state law requires one of the three forms of identification, but said he could not find in any law books a penalty for those who fail to fill in that information on voter registration forms.

Hansen said he was relieved by Monday's decision.

"As an 18-year-old, voting was one of the only things I was really looking forward to," Hansen said.
