House torched after two Las Vegas women apparently slain
Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998 | 10:51 a.m.
Clark County firefighters responding to a house fire on the city's east side found the bodies of the two women.
The bodies are believed to be those of the two residents, a 70-year-old woman and her 48-year-old daughter, police said.
Authorities say the bodies showed obvious trauma that was not consistent with the fire.
Homicide detectives and Clark County arson investigators were called to the scene and reported evidence of arson at the home.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Homicide Lt. Wayne Petersen said it appears the victims were murdered in the home before it was set on fire.
Autopsies were planned to determine the cause of death.
The names of the two victims were withheld pending notification of relatives.
Police are looking for the victims' vehicle, which was missing from the scene. The vehicle is a 1996 Ford Aerostar van, teal in color, with Nevada license number 510-DNA.
