Utah woman hits jackpot

Mrs. Geroche, of Layton, Utah, hit a $1.7 million jackpot on Saturday on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at the Rainbow Casino in Wendover.

"All I was trying to do was to get rid of some of the dollar Rainbow coins before we headed home," she said. "When it hit, I was in shock and really wasn't sure what I had won."

Mrs. Geroche, who has been ill, had just finished one of her regular sessions of kidney dialysis before they made the trip to Wendover.

"I was feeling very weak but we decided to make the trip," she said in a written statement. "We come here quite often."

Her winnings will go toward mounting medical bills, she said.

Mrs. Geroche added that she didn't have any identification with her, so her husband, who is retired from the military, had to drive to their home north of Salt Lake City to get it.

Wheel of Fortune is a progressive slot machine made by International Game Technology. Jackpots are paid in annual installments.
