Park officials said visitors reported seeing a man fall from Bright Angel Point about 11:15 a.m. Sunday. The site is a heavily used paved trail that is a popular overlook on the canyon's rim.
Rangers climbed down and recovered the body.
Authorities said it appeared Szakallas left the trail, walked to a rock outcropping at the top of a steep slope and fell.
The fall appeared to be accidental, but the Park Service and Coconino County Sheriff's Office were conducting an investigation.
Park officials said it was the fourth falling fatality at the Grand Canyon this year.
