Winnemucca nears completion of repairs on water system

The city came within hours of potential water shortages twice this summer when equipment at its largest well failed. Both times, shortages were averted when officials curtailed water use to large users such as the City Parks and Recreation Department.

The Winnemucca City Council last week approved a $552,311 bid from Trammel Inc., of Caldwell, Idaho, to build a new well, control building and booster stations.

"This is the last big project in bringing our system up from what it was when we inherited it from Sierra Pacific Power in 1985," said City Manager Steve West.

"In the near future, we would probably had subdivision applications denied if we didn't have that."
