Women slain before blaze

The medical examinations of two women's bodies found following a Sunday house fire revealed that both died of multiple stab wounds.

The bodies are believed to be those of 70-year-old Agnes Burkin and her 48-year-old daughter Sharyn Burkin. The bodies were found in two bedrooms of the home at 4620 Glenn Davis Drive.

Clark County firefighters arrived at approximately 1:40 a.m. Sunday to find the house engulfed in flames. When the bodies were found there were obvious signs of injuries inconsistent with the damage from the fire, Metro Police officers said.

Metro investigators said that it looks as if arson was used in an attempt to cover up the double homicide.

Fire investigators said they have found evidence of arson at the scene, including several points of origin.

Metro found a 1996 Ford Aerostar van that belonged to one of the victims at 1 p.m. Monday in a desert area near Decatur Boulevard and Ann Road. The van was missing from the scene of the fire.

Metro Homicide Lt. Wayne Petersen said that police are looking for Agnes Burkin's adopted son Carl for questioning, but he is not considered a suspect.

Agnes Burkin had rented the house on Glenn Davis Drive for 25 years.
