Girl struck by garbage truck in satisfactory condition

Washoe Medical Center spokeswoman Kerri Garcia said Kimberly Honniball, 6, underwent surgery Wednesday for internal injuries.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office said operators of a garbage truck that ran over a young girl apparently didn't see her as she tried to cross the street in front of the truck, sheriff's deputies said Wednesday.

An investigation continued.

Sheriff's Sgt. Bob Towery said the girl apparently was trying to cross the street to retrieve her shoes from a neighbor's house about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when she fell down or was struck by the left front of the Reno Disposal truck.

She was then run over by the truck's rear tires.

The driver of the truck was operating it from the right side of the cab at the time of the accident. The second operator also was on the right side of the truck and unable to see the girl.
