Letter: Girl's death should prompt new look at legal responsibilities

I don't think that it is right for his friend, David Cash, to go off scot-free, but he did not commit a crime as such. He was totally wrong not to report what he saw immediately when he saw it, but he is a teenager and probably doesn't think like adults do, so I guess that's why he didn't tell on his friend.

Now why hasn't the father of Sherrice Iverson been brought up on charges of child neglect? No one seems to be angry with him, and I think that he is very guilty of neglect.

And what about her 12-year-old brother who was supposed to be taking care of her? Why is it not against the law to leave a child in the care of a 12-year-old and yet not hold them responsible when they are not doing the caring?

I think that the laws need to be looked at, gone over, and changed.
