Casino to expand in Coahoma County

The $25 million Country Casino opened in 1996 adjacent to the existing Rhythm & Blues Casino and Hotel near Lula at the foot of the Mississippi River bridge on U.S. 49.

The Las Vegas-based company also announced a $500,000 renovation of the Rhythm & Blues property.

The expansion will put Lady Luck's total investment in Coahoma County near $100 million

Both casinos are located about 20 miles north of Clarksdale and near the Arkansas border, about five miles from West Helena and 120 miles from Little Rock. Casino officials estimate 70 percent of their customers come from Arkansas.

Lady Luck has sold assets in Biloxi and Tunica County in Mississippi; Missouri; and Central City, Colo.

Selling its struggling Biloxi casino left Lady Luck with profitable casinos in Natchez and Lula in Mississippi and Bettdendorf, Iowa. The company hopes to operate a joint venture hotel-casino with Horseshoe Gaming in Vicksburg and is seeking other projects in Missouri and Vancouer, B.C.
