Cop run over by car was a Metro veteran of 18 years

A Metro Police officer whose legs were run over by a suspect in a car has been identified as Sgt. Al Cervantes, 42.

Cervantes, an 18-year department veteran currently assigned to the Criminal Apprehension Team, was treated for minor injuries after the incident about 1 a.m.

Two FBI agents were working with Cervantes as part of the multi-jurisdictional CAT task force assigned that morning to take Jason Goldsby into custody at 4240 Boulder Highway when Goldsby yelled to a friend for help, authorities said.

Police said the friend, later identified as Terry Brown, 19, got into a silver Saturn and allegedly drove it toward Cervantes and one of the agents, knocking Cervantes to the ground and running over his legs.

Cervantes and the agent shot at the Saturn, but the driver left the area. Police later recovered the Saturn near the Extended StayAmerica, 4823 Boulder Highway, and eventually arrested Brown after finding him hiding in an apartment at Budget Suites, 4855 Boulder Highway.

Brown additionally was wanted on warrants charging him with conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping with a deadly weapon and robbery with a deadly weapon.

Goldsby was wanted in connection with two counts of robbery, kidnapping and grand larceny auto.
