Genoa merchant faces charges

Deputy Douglas County District Attorney Kris Brown filed the misdemeanor charge after East Fork Fire Inspector Terry Taylor filled out a complaint with the sheriff's office.

Taylor posted a "No Parking" sign near a fire hydrant at Bommarito's Main Street antique store Aug. 27. Bommarito removed it and Taylor told him to leave it alone. That's when Bommarito charged him.

Bommarito says Taylor was the aggressor and that he was protecting himself during the altercation. He also said the sign in question was placed on a post belonging to him, and no one asked permission to post it.

The matter will be heard by East Fork Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl. He's the same judge who presided over a 1996 case in which Bommarito was found guilty of battering then-Genoa Town Board Chairman Don Minifie after Minifie ordered Bommarito to move some tree clippings.
