Miriam Avery, 79, of Boulder City died Monday in Boulder City. She was born April 18, 1919, in Farnworth, England. A resident for eight years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Boulder City Seniors Center.

She is survived by her husband, Willis V.; one daughter, Sandra Sanders of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; two sons, Raymond Avery of Vestal, N.Y., and Bill Avery of Boulder City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled 10 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

SAMUEL CHAPNICK

Samuel Chapnick, 86, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Los Angeles. A resident for many years, he was a manufacturer of boxes and an Army veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Lorraine Bobbitt of California.

Burial will be in Los Angeles. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

LOUIS GENE CLOSE SR.

Louis Gene Close Sr., 62, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 10, 1936, in Provo, Utah. A resident for 28 years, he was a retired gaming enforcement agent, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Elks in Provo.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one daughter, Cynthia "Cyndee" DeVito of Henderson; two sons, Gene Close Jr. of Las Vegas and Gregory Close of Henderson; three brothers, Wayne Close of Provo and Melvin Close Jr. and Jack Close, both of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the LDS Royal Crest Ward. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

VINCENT COMEAUX JR.

Vincent Comeaux Jr., 47, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 23, 1951, in Lake Charles, La. A resident for about six years, he was a nurse in California and Las Vegas and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of San Francisco; one son, Carmine Comeaux; one daughter, Ciarra Comeaux of San Francisco; his father, Vincent Comeaux Sr., and one brother, Michael Wayne Comeaux, both of Lake Charles; and one sister, Marie Carrier of Signal Hill, Calif.

Services will be in California. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

RALPH K. CORNELIUS

Ralph K. Cornelius, 60, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Toms River, N.J. A resident for five years, he was a slot floor attendant for the gaming industry and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Lynn Eshleman of Las Vegas; one son, Robert Eshleman of North Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled 1 p.m. today in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.

CHRISTOPHER OWEN COVINGTON

Christopher Owen Covington, 53, of Las Vegas died Sept. 5 in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 15, 1945. A resident for 30 years, he was a hairstylist.

He is survived by his stepmother, Jan Covington of Phoenix; three sisters, Cheri Bittinger of Phoenix, Cindy Weathersbee of Bolivar, Tenn., and Sandy Nadbornik of Beaverton, Ore.; and one brother, Clayton Covington of Memphis, Tenn.

Mary E. Davis, 89, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born April 26, 1909, in Coal Castle, Pa. A resident for 14 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, Paul Verchick, Bernard Davis, and Jim Davis, all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Susan Varuka of Minersville, Pa., and Veronica Little of Las Vegas; one brother, Tom Verchick of Washington state; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 6 p.m. vigil today in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive, where a mass will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Jamie H. Denny, 63, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 10, 1935, in Lompoc, Calif. A resident for 22 years, he was a retired casino porter, a Navy veteran, a Merchant Marine and a graduate of UNLV.

He is survived by three daughters, Dorinda Townsend of Santa Barbara, Calif., J'Anna Rae Marshall of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Denise Paul of Walnut, Calif.; two sisters, Carol Tatum and Sandra Maher, both of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

DAVIS D. ECKERT

Davis D. Eckert, 59, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. A resident for 11 years, he was born April 30, 1939, in Janesville, Wis.

He is survived by six sons, David Scott Eckert, Jason David Eckert, Michael Richard Eckert, Travis Vincent Eckert, Nick Alexander Eckert and Greg Lucian Eckert, and one daughter, Roxanne Delora, all of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Rose Anges Feeley, 89, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 28, 1908, in El Paso, Texas. A resident for 4 1/2 years, she was a homemaker and a member for 20 years of the Vic Vine Senior Club of North Hollywood, Calif.

She is survived by one daughter, Maureen Sutton; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bertha Feldman, 79, of Las Vegas died June 9 in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 20, 1918, in New York state. A resident for many years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Isidore; one son, Ted Feldman of California; two daughters, Beverly Treuman of New York and Jeri Polen of California; two brothers; and three grandchildren.

Bessie Jones, 87, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Alexandria, La. A resident for three years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Crayton L. Jones Jr. of Las Vegas and Lionell Jones of Fall Church, Va.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Jerita Jo Keener, 59, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 3, 1938, in Arkansas. A resident for two years, she was a computer programmer in the aerospace industry.

She is survived by two daughters, Michelle Keener and Teri Keener, and her mother, Edna L. Tucker, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Linda S. Trowbridge of California; and five grandchildren.

Dorothy Mae Lay, 50, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born July 1, 1948, in Tallulah, La. A resident for 40 years, she was a hotel housekeeper.

She is survived by one son, Anthony Funches of Las Vegas; two brothers, Melvin Washington and Greg Heard, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Fay Heard of North Las Vegas and Gail Williams of Las Vegas; one aunt, Elli Mae Brown of North Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Julia N. Lyons, 40, of North Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born July 13, 1958, in New York City. A resident for 14 years, she was a certified public accountant.

She is survived by her husband, Keith; her parents, Jesse and Beatrice Nadoolman of New York City; and one sister, Joanna Nadoolman of Kerhonkson, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, S. Patricia; two daughters, Gina Yenser and Jennifer Allen, both of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Sophie Schlachtun, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Charleston, W.Va. A resident for 30 years, she was a retired owner-operator of a plastics company.

She is survived by two daughters, Sonia Schreyack of Grafton, Mass., and Sandy Thompson of Pittsburgh; one son, Charles Schlachtun of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Elsie Edwina Crue Sevilla, 82, of Las Vegas died Sept 7 in a local care center. She was born Dec. 16, 1915, in Lutherville, Md. A former Pahrump resident for 18 years and a resident of Las Vegas for five years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Guzzetta of Riverside, Calif., and Carol Jean Dorn of Mount Airy, Md.; three sons, Douglas Robinson of Hampstead, Md., Jim Robinson of Timonium, Md., and Peter M. Sevilla III of Las Vegas; one sister, Lorraine Crue of Baltimore; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Tiffany; his mother, Dorothy Smith of Las Vegas; his father, Kenneth Smith of Lebanon, Ky.; and one sister, Kerry Newman of Las Vegas.

Ruby Lee Stewart, 52, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. A resident for 30 years, she was born Jan. 3, 1946, in Endor, Ark.

Stewart, and one brother, Frank Gaston, all of Las Vegas; six sisters, La Gaston of Lake Providence, La., Willie M. Garner of San Diego, Besty Wright of Oakland, Calif., and Bobbie Gaston, Dorothy Sayles and Mary Winbush, all of Las Vegas; and 10 grandchildren.

Arthur D. Zufall Sr., 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born March 17, 1920, in Allentown, Pa. A resident for five years, he was a retired Army chief warrant officer 2 and World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys A.; one son, Arthur Zufall Jr. of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.
