Thunder signs former Whaler

The Las Vegas Thunder signed veteran forward Kevin Smyth on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound left wing spent the past two seasons with the Orlando Solar Bears. Smyth, 24, recorded 10 goals and five assists with 59 penalty minutes in 43 games last season. The former Hartford Whaler was named the IHL's comeback player of the year after suffering an injury that caused him to lose sight in one eye. He returned to the ice after missing 33 games.
