Letter: President could use good 12-step program

During a recent prayer breakfast President Clinton's mea culpa reached almost critical mass. The entire scene could have been prevented if he would have uttered "I am sorry" to Paula Jones.

To provide instant relief to taxpayers we should lighten the workload on the army of lawyers and prosecutors. I suggest the president enroll in a 12-step program. After all, we are responsible for our own actions.

To quote a famous legal beagle around town, "Take a first step."

No. 1: I advise the president to give a blanket pardon to all incarcerated for acts between consenting adults.

No. 2: Release those serving time for victimless crimes.

No. 3: Parole inmates showing contrition.

Because I've never been through any 12-step program myself I propose that the president, as long as he remains in office, make those up as time goes by.

With all respect, with two lawyers in his family, I am the last one to dispense advice, let alone taking potshots at a sitting duck.
