Obituaries for September 18, 1998

Sheldon "Shelly" Boland, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 17, 1921, in San Francisco. A resident for 45 years, he was a retired food handler.

He is survived by one stepdaughter, Dorothy Stuart of Atlantic City, N.J.; and one stepson, Blair Friedman of Palm Beach, Fla.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Palm Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

LENORD EUGENE BRANSON

Lenord Eugene Branson, 37, of Las Vegas died Sept. 7 in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 8, 1961, in Springfield, Mass. A resident for two years, he was a painter, and a musician for many years in various bands in Southern California and Nevada.

He is survived by three brothers, Donald Boles of Bradington, Fla., James Boles of North Las Vegas and Patrick Branson of Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Valli James of Washington, D.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was scheduled noon-2 p.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., followed by graveside services in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

DAVID D. ECKERT

David D. Eckert, 59, of Las Vegas died Sept. 11 in Las Vegas. A resident for 11 years, he was born April 30, 1939, in Janesville, Wis.

He is survived by six sons, David Scott Eckert, Jason David Eckert, Michael Richard Eckert, Travis Vincent Eckert, Nick Alexander Eckert and Greg Lucian Eckert, and one daughter, Roxanne Delora, all of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

MARLENE MAE FERRANTI

Marlene Mae Ferranti, 65, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 7, 1933, in Pasadena, Calif. A resident for four years, she was a entertainment promoter for the Magic & Movie Hall of Fame.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Daniel Sr.; one daughter, Tammy Ferranti of Bellflower, Calif.; one son, Thomas D. Ferranti Jr. of San Fernando Valley, Calif.; one brother, Murlin Price of Pasadena; and one sister, Tinker of Washington state.

CHEOL HONG KIM

Cheol Hong Kim, 42, of Las Vegas died Monday. He was born March 23, 1956, in Seoul, Korea. A resident for 13 years, he was a dealer and a Korean Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jeeyoung; two sons, Daniel Kim and Simon Kim, his mother, Sun Ae Yoo, one sister, Hee Kim, and one brother, Jae Kim, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation was scheduled 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., followed by services at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and burial in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

WILLIAM FROST MATTHIE

William Frost Matthie, 54, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1944, in Roswell, N.M. A resident for 4 1/2 years, he was a general manager for Complex Legal Services, a United Way board member, Hope board member, Chamber of Commerce and Convis.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia E.; two daughters, Michelle Charon and Dawn Larae Terry, both of San Diego; three sons, Craig and Corbett, both of San Diego, and Cameron of Loveland, Colo.; one sister, Ann of Martinez, Calif.; two brothers, Bob of Pioneer, Calif., and Jim of San Diego; and three grandchildren.

Services are today at 7 p.m. in the Greater Las Vegas Church of Christ. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

BUENAVENTURA A. 'NINA' PLACE

Buenaventura A. "Nina" Place, 88, of Boulder City died Wednesday in Boulder City. She was born Aug. 17, 1910, in Mexico. A resident for 60 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two adopted daughters, Petra Gomez of Boulder City and Alberta Horn of Henderson; three sisters, Candelaria Aispuro, Jacinta Aispuro and Josefa Aispuro, all of Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 1399 San Felipe Drive, Boulder City. Burial will follow in Boulder City Cemetery.
