UNLV golfers 7th in Japan

The UNLV golf team moved up to seventh place today after the second round of the Topy Cup U.S.-Japan Intercollegiate tournament at Panagura, Japan.

Led by Jeremy Anderson, the Rebels chopped 13 strokes off their opening-round score of 312. But UNLV, which was in 10th place and 20 shots behind pacesetter Arizona State after Round 1, today fell 25 strokes behind leader Tohokufukusi University of Japan. ASU dropped to second.

Other American teams in the 12-team field are Arizona University and UCLA. AU is third and UCLA fifth going into Saturday's final round.

Anderson shot a 1-under-par 71 today and his two-round total of 1-over 145 places him fourth overall, two shots off the lead, in the individual standings.

Three UNLV players -- Charley Hoffman, Andrew Scott and Michael Kirk -- shot 4-over 76s today. The Rebels' Chris Berry had a 78.
