California man hits Super Megabucks

RENO, Nev. - A repairman for San Francisco's mass transit system is $14 million richer after winning a world record slot jackpot.

Reynald Herren of Daly City, Calif., played only $30 before lining up four Double Diamond symbols on a Super Megabucks progressive slot machine Saturday night at Harrah's Reno.

Herren, a father of three, received the first $1 million Sunday and will receive the rest of his winnings in equal annual payments over 30 years.

The old world record jackpot was $12.5 million hit by Suzanne Henley, 46, of Las Vegas, in April 1997 at the New York, New York Casino in Las Vegas.

She landed her jackpot on a Megabucks slot. The current Megabucks jackpot stands at $22.4 million and would be a world record when it's hit.

Megabucks and Super Megabucks are among 16 International Game Technology progressive systems linking machines in casinos across Nevada.

Herren's jackpot was only the second hit on the Super Megabucks game, which was introduced late last year.

Immediately after his win, the Super Megabucks jackpot was reset to its base amount of $10 million.
