Columnist Peter Benton: LVI ticket prices announced

THE LAS VEGAS Founders Club, the brains and brawn behind the Las Vegas Invitational, has announced ticket prices for the tournament, set Oct. 14-18 at the Desert Inn, Las Vegas Country Club, and the host course, the TPC in Summerlin.

Daily tickets may be purchased in advance for $15 or $20 at the gate. Season badges, which provide access to all five rounds, may be purchased for $50 or $75 on the day of the tournament.

Additionally, 2-for-1 specials, designed for seniors and military personnel are available. Likewise, juniors accompanied by a paying adult will be granted free admission.

Other advance package options:

* Clubhouse season badge, $100: This badge allows access to each round of the tournament along with limited access to the clubhouse. It does not include food and beverage privileges.

* V.I.P. package, $175: Includes four season badges and one valet parking pass.

* V.I.P. package, $300: Includes four clubhouse season badges and one valet parking pass.

* Daily grounds package, $250: Includes 25 daily tickets which can be used any day of the tournament.

Valet parking passes also are available for $50. General parking in specified lots is free for all ticket holders.

Advance tickets may be purchased at Cadillac West, Cashman Cadillac and the two Las Vegas Golf and Tennis locations. Fans also may order tickets through the tournament office at 242-3000.

Volunteers wanted

The Las Vegas Invitational still is seeking volunteers to assist with the upcoming tournament.

Gallery control personnel, scorekeepers and greens reporters are desperately needed.

Shirts, hat and socks will be provided along with a daily Continental breakfast, lunch, and a volunteers party at the conclusion of the tournament.

Nevada Seniors

The Casablanca Golf Club in Mesquite was the venue for the Nevada State Seniors Golf Club's September tournament.

The format for the two-day event was eclectic and the weather was beautiful.

Bob Johnson won the first flight (handicaps 6-13) with a 60. John Wakefield was second at 61, followed by Dean Bolen and Wayne Lathrop another shot back.

Norval Jessogne won the second flight (13-18) with a 56. Art Rubin and Joe Malais shared second with 60s.

The third flight (18-22) wound up in a tie between Chris Halford, Jim Hironaka and Ron Schmitz with 58s.

Bill Eubank and Chuck Hopson came in with terrific 54s to share the honors in the fourth flight (23-41). The third spot went to Ken Cage with a 57.
