UNR honors slain officer

Several family members and local law enforcement officers joined in the dedication Tuesday.

The new granite bench with a badge-shaped base was designed by campus police. It is near the library north of the campus entrance on Center Street.

Sullivan, 43, apparently was the victim of a random attack as he was filling out reports in his police car on Jan. 13, police said.

Siaosi Vanisi, 27, was arrested the next day in Salt Lake City and charged with murder. He faces a Jan. 11 trial.

Sullivan had been on the force for 19 years. A plaque on the bench says, "Your sacrifice will not be forgotten."
