Obituaries for April 2, 1999

Dorothy C. (Stratton) Durkin, 83, of Phoenix died Monday in Phoenix. She was born in Akron, Ohio. A former resident of Boulder City, she was a Boulder City Hospital licensed practical nurse for more than 20 years.

She is survived by one son, Robert Stratton of Kent, Ohio; one daughter, Patricia Beery of Phoenix; one brother, Ken Jones of Las Vegas; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Boulder City. Burial will follow in Boulder City Cemetery.

John William Herron

John William Herron, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Texas. A resident for 39 years, he was a civil engineer with EG&G, a Navy veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; three sons, Jim, Russell and Gary; one daughter, Christine Santanilla; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2:15 p.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Jerome Litwin

Jerome Litwin, 71, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 28, 1927 in Chicago. A resident for four years, he was a truck driver and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Muriel; two sons, Stewart Litwin and Michael Litwin; two daughters, Ellen Chrisos and Debra Litwin; one brother, Burton Litwin; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may come to the family home Saturday and Sunday. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Georgia C. Moore

Georgia C. Moore, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born April 28, 1928, in Cornwall, Tenn. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Lester; one daughter, Robin Moore, and one son, Randy Moore, both of Las Vegas; three sisters, Dorothy Stroup and Shirley Burnett, both of Warren, Ohio, and Doris Gilmer of Victorville, Calif.; and one granddaughter, Alexandra Moore.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Harrison-Ross Mortuaries, 2071 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Harrison-Ross Mortuaries. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Thomas Moore

Thomas Moore, 79, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 27, 1920, in Tishomingo, Okla. A resident for 50 years, he was a retired owner of an accounting firm, a World War II and Korean War Air Force veteran, a member of Elks Lodge 1468, a lifetime member of the Air Force Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Frances; and one sister, Annabelle Hermon of Irvine, Calif.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Louis Joseph Nickele

Louis Joseph Nickele, 73, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Chicago. A resident for 11 years, he was a plumber.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; one son, Mark Louis Nickele of Chicago; three daughters, Audrey Pentics of Henderson and Margaret DeBock and Theresa Nickele, both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Robert Nickele and Richard Nickele, and two sisters, Dora Gramarossa and Elena Bertolini, all of Chicago; and six grandchildren.

Services are pending. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Marilyn A. O'Leary

Marilyn A. O'Leary, 67, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 22, 1932, in Princeton, Ind. A resident for 13 years, she was a retired credit union loan counselor.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Philip O'Leary; two daughters, Shawn O'Leary and Erin Kauffman, both of Las Vegas; three sons, Philip M. O'Leary of Las Vegas, Patrick O'Leary of Columbia, S.C., and Timothy O'Leary of Homer, Alaska; one brother, James Wilson of Princeton, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Salvation Army, 2900 Palamino Lane. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Roddrick Von Reed

Roddrick Von Reed, 55, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 22, 1943, in Texas. A resident for 11 years, he was retired from the real estate industry and a Vietnam War Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa; one son, Roddrick Von Reed II of Las Vegas; two daughters, Amber LaVon Reed of Marina Del Rey, Calif., and Demontus Von Lynn Reed of San Diego; his mother, Demontus Reed of Los Angeles; two brothers, Kipton Reed and Conway Reed Jr., both of California; and three grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., followed by burial in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Douglas S. Schaeffer

Douglas S. Schaeffer, 58, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 19, 1940, in Milwaukee. A resident for 33 years, he was a casino floorman and a Coast Guard veteran.

He is survived by four sons, Scott Schaeffer and Eric Schaeffer, both of Dearborn, Mich., and Randy Schaeffer and Rusty Schaeffer, both of Henderson; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 30 minutes prior to 4 p.m. services Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

Don E. Smith

Don E. Smith, 72, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Hettinger, N.D. A resident for 35 years, he was a retired truck service lubeman and a member of Teamsters Local 631.

He is survived by his wife, Lyola; two daughters, Carol Banks and Gayla Brown, both of Las Vegas; two sons, Sam Smith of Henderson and Todd Smith of Las Vegas; two sisters, Barbara Besler and Ramona Brockel, both of Bison, S.D.; two brothers, Gene Smith of Bison and Clair Smith of Prairie City, S.D.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Tracy N. Smith

Tracy N. Smith, 53, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. A waitress, she was born Nov. 3, 1945.

She is survived by two sons, Karl Nordgren of Connecticut and Gerald Nordgren of Michigan.

Burial will be in Connecticut. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Rose Tong

Rose Tong, 68, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local health care center. She was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Vandergrift, Pa. A resident for 17 years, she was a retired real estate broker and an avid tennis player.

She is survived by her husband, Allen; one sister, Genevieve Castelletti of Las Vegas; and two nieces, Sylvia Weitzel of Las Vegas and Stephanie Picconi of Friday Harbor, Wash.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Karen Elaine Wachsman

Karen Elaine Wachsman, 54, of Boulder City died Tuesday in Boulder City. She was born July 5, 1944, in North Dakota. A resident for 2 1 /2 years, she was a assistant publisher for a newspaper.

She is survived by one son, Michael Jon Wachsman of Ohio; one daughter, Elizabeth Wachsman of Henderson; her mother, Margaret Elaine Roschman, and one brother, David Roschman, both of Florida; and two sisters, Leslie Dennis of New York and Jill Young of California.
