Early-voting schedule begins Friday for LV

Although political signs and campaign ads are just kicking into high gear, Las Vegas voters will be able to cast the first ballots of the municipal election this week.

Beginning Friday, absentee ballots will be accepted in person at the city clerk's office on the first floor of City Hall, 400 E. Stewart Ave.

The office will accept ballots weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until April 30 for the primary election.

Early voting for all registered voters will be available April 17-30 in the clerk's office and at temporary branch polling places.

The temporary branch polling site will be at the Meadows mall. Mobile polling sites will be established at the Community College of Southern Nevada, Charleston campus in Ward 1; at Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive in Ward 2; the Lucky grocery store, 2400 E. Bonanza Road in Ward 3, and Rancho Santa Fe Theaters, N. 5101 Rainbow Blvd. in Ward 4.

Las Vegas voters will have their pick of nine candidates for mayor, five for City Council Ward 1, seven for City Council Ward 3 and six for Municipal Court Department 4.

The primary election is May 4. Voters can no longer register to vote for the primary but have until May 8 to register for the June 8 general election.
