Engineering ready to advance on track

A subcommittee working to develop an elevated mass transit system for Las Vegas is recommending that designers begin preliminary engineering on the first section of track.
The subcommittee on fixed-guideway mass transit will make its recommendation to the Regional Transportation Commission this week. Commissioners hope to develop enough information from the preliminary engineering to make some critical decisions on the mass transit system by June.
One of the biggest decisions on the horizon is for the commission to decide what type of technology is to be used for the transit system -- light rail or some form of monorail. Once a technology is selected, the RTC will be able to develop a request for proposals and develop competitive bidding.
