Letter: Deaths in custody occur too often

Oh really, I personally would like to know how a healthy person ends up dead in police custody. There have been far too many persons who die in this matter at the Clark County Detention Center at the hands of Metro officers. This type of malfeasance has to stop; the cost of lawsuits alone is staggering. Keep in mind this could happen to anyone at anytime.

On a related note, I read with interest about the arrest of Phyllis McGuire on various charges, among them battery on a police officer. I ask the question, "How can an elderly woman batter a police officer?" Give me a break.

McGuire has always been a class act and is an asset to the community. She is talented and has helped in many worthy causes. This whole situation could have been handled in a more appropriate way. It just goes to prove injustice may happen to any citizen at the hands of an out-of-control police department.

A little traveling music, a couple bars of "Jail House Rock" will do.
