Mining supervisor falls to his death while trying to help a co-worker

Authorities said Ken Stevenson, 38, may have been trying to help a co-worker when he fell 150 feet to his death on Thursday.

Barrick Gold spokesman Vince Borg said Stevenson was trying to help Louis Rogers, who had lost his balance while working on the expansion of the Meikle underground mine.

Rogers was wearing a safety harness but Stevenson was not and tumbled into the shaft known as "the raise."

Stevenson was pronounced dead at the scene. Rogers was treated at Elko General Hospital for minor injuries and released.
