Obituaries for April 5, 1999

Stanley M. Arnold, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1917, in Long Beach, Calif. A resident for 16 years, he was a retired World War II and Korean War Navy aviator.

He is survived by his wife, Carole.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 2 p.m. services Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Francis Henry Das

Francis Henry Das, 64, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 2, 1934, in Ohio. A resident for 15 years, he was a bus driver and a veteran.

He is survived by one son, William Das of Las Vegas; and one brother, Andrew Das of Colorado.

Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling private arrangements.

Michael James Denning

Michael James Denning, 43, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 21, 1955, in Chelsea, Mass. A resident for seven years, he was a retired firefighter.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; two daughters, Kerri Denning and Nicole Denning, and one son, Michael Denning, all of Everett, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Patterson of Las Vegas and Cheryl Barstow of Wilmington, Mass.; two brothers, Stephen M. Denning of West Peabody, Mass., and Robert H. Denning of Chelsea; three sisters, Kathleen A. Spinelli and Margaret M. Sarno, both of Peabody, Mass., and Maureen T. Abramofsky of Chelsea; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. A private burial will follow.

Irene R. Bassler Flanagan

Irene R. Bassler Flanagan, 75, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Omaha, Neb. A resident for 31 years, she was a retired hotel room reservationist and a member of Teamsters Local 995.

She is survived by two sons, Darold Bassler of Las Vegas and Donald Bassler of Honey Creek, Iowa; one daughter, Barbara Cavaricci, and three brothers, Larry Krantz, James Krantz and Ray Kwasnieski, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Lucille Mlnarik of Omaha; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from noon until a 5 p.m. rosary Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Edythe Hirsch

Edythe Hirsch, 71, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born May 14, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for three weeks, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Mark Hirsch of Lake Worth, Fla.; one daughter, Susan Tuhkala, and her father, Sam Gordon, all of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Betty Unger

Betty Unger, 76, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born March 17, 1923, in Cleveland. A resident for 10 years, she was a newspaper saleswoman.

She is survived by one son, Kurt Unger of Palmdale, Calif.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Palmdale. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Marcelo 'Mike' Yglecias

Marcelo 'Mike' Yglecias, 67, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Alice, Texas. A resident for 29 years, he was an Air Force Base inspector and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Dalia; three daughters, Annie Yglecias of New York City and Bernice Medrano and Liza Torres, both of El Paso, Texas; three sons, Tony Gasca of El Paso and Alan Gasca and Andrew Gasca, both of Las Vegas; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services and burial will be in El Paso.
