Boulder City prepares for union talks

Boulder City officials met Monday morning in a closed City Council workshop session to discuss upcoming labor negotiations between the city and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 14 and the Police Protective Association.

City Manager John Sullard said the contract for both unions expires on June 30.

The Teamsters represent the fire department, the clerical units, public works and supervisors, Sullard said.

About 90 of the city's 149 employees are covered under the contracts that will be negotiated by a team made up of Sullard, Human Resources Director Dee Zambetti and labor relations consultant Angus MacEacharn, who were appointed by the City Council last month.

While he refused to give any details concerning the new contracts, Sullard did say everything is up for negotiation, including the terms and length of the contract.

"We're going into an agreement with the other side that no details of the contract will be available during the negotiation process," he said.

Sullard added that the current labor contracts were for three years.
