Mirage art tax exemption hearing delayed

The Bellagio hotel-casino lawsuit against the Nevada Tax Commission challenging restrictions on a tax exemption for the $300 million art exhibit at the Mirage Resorts property was postponed until June 7.

But at that point it may not matter, said Assistant District Attorney Michael Davidson.

That's because the Nevada Legislature is considering a bill that will clarify the tax exemption. The bill would allow the Bellagio to collect an admission fee for the display.

Based on the current 1997 law, the Nevada Tax Commission approved a regulation that admission to the gallery must be free to qualify for the tax break. Bellagio charges $12 a person.
