Nevada gets $2.4 million in education grants

The grants are available to help students at the state's largest universities, including $847,954 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and $765,823 at the University of Nevada, Reno.
But a portion also is set aside for trade schools, including the Marinello School of Beauty, $10,392, and Southern Nevada University of Cosmetology, $12,984.
Gibbons, R-Nev., said the grants come from three sources: Federal Work-Study, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant and Federal Perkins Loan Programs. Other totals approved for the 1999-2000 academic year are:

Career College of Northern Nevada, $66,027
Sierra Nevada College, $51,505
Great Basin College, $39,942
Las Vegas College, $54,000
Academy of Medical and Business Careers, $22,335
