Clark County growth bills OK'd by panels

Nearly a dozen growth-related bills were introduced by Sens. Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, and Jon Porter, R-Boulder City, this session, and all but two were still alive as Friday's deadline for committee action passed.

Among other things, the measures are designed to help protect rural neighborhoods from growth and to encourage the development of potentially contaminated inner-city lands.

Another bill would require local governments to uniformly evaluate the effect of major developments on services such as schools and police before approving projects.

Titus said her four-bill package is designed to ensure "smart growth" in one of the nation's fastest growing counties.
