The Nathan Adelson Hospice is sponsoring Families In Focus, a six-part, psycho-educational series for families with children ages 6-16 who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
The first class is for adults only, but the remaining five classes are designed specifically for children and their parents/guardians. Classes are 6-8 p.m. beginning Monday and continuing for six consecutive Mondays, at Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St. Cost is $15 per family for the series.
Davis Park improvements will be celebrated
Residents of Spring Valley are invited to celebrate recent improvements at Davis Park 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at 2796 Redwood St. The 8.26 acre park was spruced up with the addition of park furniture, a playground /tot lot with sitting shelter, a park identification sign and two new picnic shelters with park and picnic furniture.
Commissioner Erin Kenny will host family games, a barbecue and entertainment. The event is free to the public. Davis Park is located near Sahara Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard.
Programs offer wealth of history on the area
Here are some events coming up at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area:
Chinle Trail: Fossils and Cacti: Learn about both on this three-mile excursion up-and-down Blue Diamond Mesa Sunday.
Tracking the Bighorn: Join in on this five-mile moderate hike with some rock scrambling Sunday.
Exploring Time, Geology of the Keystone: Explore the most significant geological feature of Red Rock Canyon -- the Keystone Thrust -- on this 3 1/2-mile moderate hike Monday.
Introduction to Red Rock Canyon: Join Cactus Jack as he introduces various plants, animals, rocks and people Tuesday and April 27.
Birdwatching at Wheeler Springs: Discover what "feathered friends" are at the spring in this early morning 2-mile moderate hike Tuesday.
Red Rock offers hikes and walks free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs, which begin at the visitor's center. To make reservations or for information call 363-1921.
What's for dinner? Try something nutritious
The eternal question, "What's for dinner?" will be answered in a free workshop 6-7 p.m. Monday at the Summerlin Medical Center, 653 Town Center Drive.
As part of their ongoing program to help families of overweight children, Youth Health Specialists is offering a series of free workshops open to the community. 363-9437.
Workshop to teach reflexology techniques
A reflex relaxation workshop will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. in Henderson.
Participation is $15.
The instructor will teach participants how to relax using reflexology techniques, a practice that involves the application of pressure to specific points on the feet and hands. Call 565-2121.
