Downtown workers OK labor contracts

Union contracts covering 1,525 workers at four downtown Las Vegas gaming properties were approved by a vote of 766-8 Wednesday, said Barbara Maher, department head in charge of downtown properties for the Culinary Union.

The contracts cover the Plaza, El Cortez, Las Vegas Club and Western hotel-casinos, all owned by Jackie Gaughan. Union employees at the properties, who had worked without a contract since June 1997, will receive hourly increases of $1.55.
