Witness in Binion case to testify

Reluctant witness Linda Susan Carroll was to testify today before a county grand jury investigating Ted Binion's murder.

Carroll's Huntington Beach, Calif., lawyer, Chet Bennett, said Wednesday he planned to bring his client to the grand jury in the early afternoon.

Chief Deputy District Attorney David Roger and homicide detectives spearheading the probe have said they were skeptical that Carroll would show up because she has failed to follow through on other promises to cooperate.

The 42-year-old Carroll, a friend of Binion's girlfriend, Sandy Murphy, has been eluding authorities in Southern California for weeks. A warrant has been issued for her arrest as a material witness in the investigation.

Homicide detectives and the FBI's Criminal Apprehension Team in Las Vegas have been participating in the search, which has been publicized on the syndicated television show, "America's Most Wanted."

Carroll, a former cocktail waitress at Cheetah's topless nightclub, is wanted to testify about the hours she spent with Murphy after Binion was murdered on Sept. 17.

The activities of Murphy, who also once worked at Cheetah's, and her reported lover Montana, contractor Rick Tabish, have come under the grand jury's scrutiny.
