Board for first charter school suspends action

At a meeting Friday, board president Ian Hill said concerns about the board's legal authority must be addressed before it can make any decisions.

Margaret Williamson, who resigned as principal of the Reno charter high school last month, questioned the board's authority since not all board members are listed on the school's charter.

"It is my belief this is an appropriate body; however, I am going to submit this matter to the attorney general for an opinion regarding this issue of governance of the school," Hill said.

"We are not going to take any action other than what is necessary and required for the operation of the school until we receive the opinion."

Hill also met with Washoe County schools Superintendent Jim Hager on Friday to ask for help in ensuring the charter school complies with all state regulations.
