Race car driver Darrell LaMoure will feature the image of a missing Henderson boy on his Chevrolet Monte Carlo Saturday night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

LaMoure of Phoenix became involved in helping the missing children campaign earlier this year when he placed a larger-than-life color vinyl photograph of a missing Arizona youth on the hood of his race car.

The image of Michael Rainey of Henderson, missing since August 1996, will be on the LaMoure car during the NASCAR Featherlight Southwest Series Las Vegas 100.

Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said LaMoure is working with the Nevada Missing Children Clearinghouse to help find the boy.

Rainey's parents, Kenneth and Susan, will attend the race. Kenneth said he has never given up looking for his son, putting more than 106,000 miles on his car.

Rancho High post concerns minorities

Ten residents urged Clark County School Board members Thursday to hire a minority principal at Rancho High School to replace Ernie Jauregui, a Hispanic who recently transferred to Sunset High School South.

"When are we going to start thinking about the Hispanic kids, when are we going to start thinking about the black kids?" asked Joseph Jackson.

"I would like for this board to use some common sense," Lucille Cleveland-Bryant added.

Rancho's student population is roughly 52 percent Hispanic, 21 percent black and 22 percent white.

The 10 speakers said they were concerned that the board was about to hire a white principal. The board delayed a decision, promising to consider the comments.

"Something is wrong with this picture," vocal activist Marzette Lewis told the board. "We need to correct all this racism."

Freedom doesn't last for repeat offender

A Las Vegas man landed back in jail just one hour after he was released on Thursday.

Eddie Dwayne Williams was arrested on a burglary charge after Metro Police say they witnessed him break into a house and take a VCR.

Williams, who was released from the Las Vegas Detention Center at Stewart Avenue and Mojave Road on Thursday, was spotted casing the residence at 516 N. 21 St. by detectives, police said. Williams went to the home's back door and came out the front door with a VCR, police said.

Williams, a six-time convicted felon for burglary, was arrested by Metro's repeat offenders unit.

UNLV college helped to new computers

UNLV students attending the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering will be buying 12 new computer work stations thanks to a donation from a Henderson- based software company.

Aldec Inc. donated more than $50,000 to the school to go toward the purchase of the Gateway computers and software.

The $50,000 will be matched by the university to cover the complete cost of the dozen work stations.

The computers will be housed in the new Aldec Digital Design and Processing Laboratory.
