Letter: Recent police action unnerves local resident

He was staggering a little, and I also noticed a limp.

I asked him if he was all right; he didn't respond. I got closer and asked him again.

He just glared at me and kept walking.

Was I scared? Of course not, he was my husband of 32 years.

He was filthy because he is a certified welder and works in the dirt all day long, 10-12 hours a day.

He was limping from an accident he had 5 years ago, and he didn't answer me perhaps because he is a little hard of hearing.

He staggered and glared at me because he is a diabetic and his sugar had dropped and he didn't even know who I was.

If I had been a police officer would he have been shot because he didn't respond?

This scares me to think that it is very possible. His is a well taken care of medical problem, however, things happen and sugars do drop.

When they do, you could look suspicious, drunk, in the wrong place, etc. And being diabetic isn't the only medical problem that can cause a person to look suspicious.

I think the police departments are way underpaid for the danger they have to face each day. However, the ones that overreact to situations make it bad for the ones who are professional.

I have family and friends who range from officer to detective. So I'm not against them, but I am scared of them.

Maybe the screening of these people should be better.
