Letter: HMO reforms are in need of a hero
Sunday, April 25, 1999 | 4 a.m.
I have been fighting my HMO, Health Plan of Nevada, for more than two months to get much needed, medically necessary laser surgery for my disk problem that is causing my leg to become paralyzed. Dealing with all the red tape and the incompetency of customer service and other departments, I have become both emotionally and mentally exhausted.
It's ironic to find that while HPN collects its profits and doctors fear being de-selected, it will take someone out of the medical industry to become our "white knight." Let's hope that someone like George Soros can make a difference in the quality of health care through HMOs.
