Get Y2K OK, a conference which will address Year 2000 issues and solutions for local area businesses, will be 1:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday at the MGM Grand Convention Center.

Clothing store plans special family event

The Baby and Kids Fair '99 will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Burlington Coat Factory, 5959 W. Sahara Ave.

The fair will feature a number of local and national exhibitors offering a selection of baby, toddler and child-related merchandise and services. Visitors will see a variety of brand-name youth products and receive useful information for the entire family. Call 247-1268.

Annual program targets property in West Las Vegas

The fifth annual Operation Desert Clean-Up will target 100 acres of city of Las Vegas land Saturday at the northwest corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Vegas Drive, behind the new veterans clinic.

The cleanup in West Las Vegas will begin at 8 a.m. and last until completion. The estimated savings to restore the blighted area is $80,000. Last year's event removed 220 tons of debris in fewer than four hours from behind Cimarron-Memorial High School.

The event is open to the public. Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates and Councilman Gary Reese are among those civic leaders expected to participate. Call 796-9986.

UNLV Hotel College will honor Delaney

The Tourism and Convention Department in the Hotel College at UNLV will be honoring Sun entertainment columnist Joe Delaney as Industry Leader of the Year at a reception 11 a.m.-noon Thursday in the Boyd Dining Room in UNLV's Beam Hall.

Delaney is being recognized for his 26 years teaching hotel entertainment.

The public is invited to the event.

Junior high will show student works on Thursday

Greenspun Junior High School is holding its first art festival, "Connections To Creativity" 6-9 p.m. Thursday at 140 N. Valle Verde Drive, Henderson.

Drawings, paintings and sculptures will be exhibited from students in grades six through eight. For more information, call 799-0920.

South Pacific will be focus of University Forum finale

Ecotourism policies in the South Pacific will be the focus of the final presentation of the spring 1999 University Forum lecture series at 7:30 p.m. Monday auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History at UNLV.

UNLV political science professor Steven Parker's lecture is based on the research he conducted during his 1998 sabbatical field work in Papua New Guinea and Australia. Call 895-3401.
